The Observer presents Fake News
The Observer presents two expert panels about fake news and tech monopolies, hosted by Carole Cadwalladr.
At 11.30am, Fake News, Disinformation and Propaganda will feature Professor Philip Howard from the Oxford Computational Institute discussing his latest groundbreaking research on how bots spread propaganda online. He will be joined by James Ball of Buzzfeed, author of Post Truth: How Bullshit Conquered the World.
At 12.30pm, the second panel will discuss Cambridge Analytica, Data and the Power of the Platforms with Chi Onwurah, Labour’s shadow minister for Industrial Strategy, Science and Innovation and Hannes Grassegger, a Swiss economist and network theorist who has broken stories on Cambridge Analytica and Facebook. They will be joined by solicitor, Ravi Naik, who is leading a legal challenge against companies for misusing personal data.
