Malaria; of Man and Mosquito
Mosquitoes are the most dangerous animals on Earth. They infect millions of people throughout the world with lethal diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and zika virus. Insecticides are a vital part of disease control, particularly when used to impregnate bed nets which have helped to halve the number of malaria cases in Africa this century. That’s around 400 million fewer cases of malaria. Unfortunately, mosquitoes are becoming extremely resistant to insecticides, threatening efforts to eliminate malaria and other diseases. What can be done to combat mosquitoes and other blood suckers? Mark Paine will introduce us to the challenges faced in tackling tropical diseases and new tools being developed to overcome them.
