The presenter of BBC6Music mid-morning Weekday Show, every day Monday to Friday, 10.30am-1pm and the specialist new music show ‘6 Music Recommends’ Wed 12-1am, at 18, Mary Anne Hobbs ran away to London and lived with a band in a bus on a carpark for a year. She never looked back.
Mary Anne has toured the world as a live DJ for a decade, playing to her biggest crowd of 15,000 people at Sonar festival in Barcelona, one of the many international festivals at which she has worked as a highly successful curator and performer.
Mary Anne currently DJs at major cultural events, such as the Tate Modern Extension launch in London, and she acts as Artistic Advisor and curator at the BBC6Music Festival and Manchester International Festival.
In 2015 Mary Anne Hobbs staged her first BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Nils Frahm & A Winged Victory For The Sullen with dancers from Company Wayne McGregor.
She worked on the soundtrack with Clint Mansell for Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar winning film ‘Black Swan’, and it was nominated for a Grammy.
In addition to extensive radio broadcasting over 20 years for BBC6Music, Radio1, Radio 3, Radio 4, GLR and Xfm, she has also worked as a young music journalist for NME, and in television.
