Dr Robert E Smith discusses the reality of our near future of Artiricial Intelligence, something he terms ‘the banality of AI, as he believes we’re not asking the right questions about AI, namely what it means to be intelligent and what it means to be artificial. It is not, as he will explain, the sexy singularity of artificial super intelligence that we should fear – namely this idea that machines will evolve beyond us that we should fear, rather the banality of artificial intelligence that should terrify us.
