Mike Burton

Mike Burton is Professor of Volcanology in the School of Earth and Environmental Science at The University of Manchester. Before he came to Manchester in 2015, he had spent 15 years in Italy with the National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology. In Italy he led geochemical monitoring of volcanic gas emissions from Etna and Stromboli and the Etna Observatory in Catania, before moving to Pisa where he studied global carbon dioxide emissions from volcanoes. He began his volcanological career in Cambridge, transferring techniques for gas measurements from his PhD studies on ozone depletion into volcanological research.
