Sara Lowes (ESOF)
Sara Lowes is a musician and composer currently living in Manchester. Lowes has worked as a touring and recording session musician and backing vocalist for acts including: The Earlies, King Creosote, Jens Lekman and Marina and the Diamonds. Releasing 4 solo albums to date, Sara’s most recent work includes her critically acclaimed album ‘The Joy Of Waiting’ and Old Fire: ‘Songs From The Haunted South’ A special Collaboration produced by JM Lapham (The Earlies) which will be released 24th June 2016. Lowes was score vocalist for BAFTA award winning composition of BBC’s TV Series, The Hunt composed by Steven Price.
In 2014, Sara Lowes was appointed as composer in residence at The National Graphene Institute at Manchester University. Commissioned by Brighter Sound, Lowes worked with Dr Cinzia Casiraghi and Nobel Prize-winning Scientist Sir Kostya Novoselov to explore the commonalities between two creative processes: composition and scientific research. The outcome was Graphene Suite, a six movement piece mixing different musical styles and nuances, the piece also paid tribute to the pioneering female composers and scientists of the past. It was debuted at The University of Manchester and the Museum of Science and Industry.

On Saturday 23 July, leading academics and researchers from a range of scientific disciplines and fields of discovery will be making an appearance at bluedot ahead of speaking at the EuroScience Open Forum, Europe’s biggest science conference, which is taking place in Manchester 24 – 27 July.
