Tom Rogerson
Tom Rogerson is a composer, improvising pianist and keyboardist, and the founder of experimental electronic-rock band Three Trapped Tigers. He has collaborated with numerous artists, as well as pursuing his own solo piano career, and running Proof Positive; an influential improvisation night in London. His debut solo album will be released in the autumn of 2017. Born in Suffolk, Tom initially focused on composition, studying at the Royal Academy of Music, where his teachers included Harrison Birtwistle and Dominic Muldowney.
After his debut as an improvising pianist at the Fringe of the Aldeburgh Festival in 2002, he began to focus on live performance, culminating in his first album, recorded with Reid Anderson (The Bad Plus) and Mike Lewis (Happy Apple) while he lived in New York City. On returning to London, he began exploring electro-acoustic improvisation, which led to the formation in 2007 of Three Trapped Tigers with Matt Calvert (guitar) and Adam Betts (drums). Initially founded to explore the possibilities of replicating electronic music techniques in live performance, it has since developed to the midpoint between rock, electronic, jazz and noise.
