Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre’s First Light Project will celebrate the internationally significant heritage of Jodrell Bank and create a spectacular new pavilion in which visitors can discover more about the site’s rich and pioneering history.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jodrell Bank is recognised as a site of Outstanding Universal Value and its fascinating story charts the history of radio astronomy, including great feats of post-war engineering, the Space Race and the Cold War.
The First Light Pavilion, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and DCMS, is currently under construction and will open in 2021. The beautiful new building, which is situated in the gardens, will include a stunning new exhibition, auditorium and immersive projection space, along with a new café and education hub.
Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is one of the University of Manchester’s Cultural Institutions and is a registered charity. Since opening in 2011, it’s welcomed over 1.3million visitors through its doors and inspired a generation of children with the science ands stories of Jodrell Bank.
