Light for Life

Light is all around us and while it is the cause of many major problems, increasingly it is becoming the solution for a greener planet. Research over the last decade has produced a whole new range of efficient devices that can either generate light or produce electrical power, most of which rely on just a few nanometres of material to work. Pollution comes in in many forms, but almost all of them are related to light; from the gradual loss of dark skies to being the source of renewable energy, light has many uses and associated issues.

Come and find out how much electricity is generated globally just for artificial lighting – and how new bulb technology can help; learn how light can reduce the need for fossil fuels; and explore how lasers and LEDs are used to save lives!
